Themed on “Building Libraries for a New Age: Perseverance, Transformation and Disruption”, the 10th Shanghai International Library Forum (SILF 2020) was successfully held at Shanghai Library on October 14-16, 2020. Affected by the global Covid-19 epidemic, the forum was held for the first time through a combination of online and offline seminars, meetings, and multi-platform live broadcasts, gathering experts and colleagues who could not be present in this grand “cloud” event. Nearly a hundred representatives from more than 10 countries and regions attended this forum, more than 20 domestic and foreign experts and representatives gave academic sharing, and more than 18,000 people participated online. Mr. Gerald LEITNER, Secretary General of IFLA, gave a keynote speech titled "Libraries: Disrupted or Disruptor?” on the opening day.
This forum has two theme sessions, "Innovation Services and Management of Libraries" and "Development of New Generation Libraries", altogether including 15 theme reports and an on-site guest interaction, providing a useful platform for colleagues in the library community to carry out thought exchanges and theoretical discussions. At the forum, many foreign experts elaborated their views and opinions through video reports, especially on areas like innovation of library services under epidemic, future development of the library, new generation of FOLIO platform, open access, and transformation of reading space, etc.
This year marks the tenth consecutive session of the Shanghai International Library Forum. The Shanghai Library will continue to be committed to building the unique "Shanghai Culture" brand, vigorously promoting the city spirit of inclusiveness, pursuit of excellence, enlightenment, wisdom, and modesty, and spare no effort to make due contributions to the construction of an international cultural metropolis that is more open, inclusive, and more attractive of the times.
