National Library of Tajikistan, Tajikistan
The National Library of Tajikistan was officially opened in 2012. A nine-storey building with a total space of 45.000m² and containing approximately 10 million books is the largest library in Central Asia.
The imposing white edifice is situated in the centre of the city and is yet another expression of the gigantomania of the Tajik government of the last years. Among other huge projects of the country is also the region's largest teahouse and the world's biggest flagpole (165m), unveiled in 2011.
Shanghai Library and National Library of Tajikistan established the cooperation in 2012.
